The focus of Product Design lies in the creative influence on the conceptual design of industrial products. This requires artistic-aesthetic cooperation in companies in the commercial industry and exertion of its creative impacts on relevant business processes.

Competencies acquired during the study period facilitate eminent consulting and industrial design management as well as the possession of a creative impulse on economy and society that goes beyond the scope of the usual job descriptions. Product Design is situated at the highly complex crossroads of strategic business units, technical departments, and economic-ecological management.

It is conceived to bring aesthetic, ergonomic, psychological and sensually tangible decision aspects to the production and distribution processes. Therefore, product designers are deeply involved in processes from product planning and development to production. The aim is to let production meet the practical, aesthetic, emotional, social and ethical requirements and needs of the clientèle through an offer of sophisticated technology and its distribution.

Course Details:

The Product Design study program at Berlin International University of Applied Sciences is divided into different stages: semesters one and two forms the basic study period. During this period, three core modules and two General Vocational Practice modules have to be passed successfully (30 credits per semester). The basic study period ends with a modular examination in the form of a presentation of approx. 20 minutes in length per student.

Only after having successfully passed the modular examination may students embark on the second stage of their studies, the main study period.

The main study period consists of three core modules during semesters three to six. After the fifth semester, students have to participate in a second oral modular examination. They may start their Bachelor’s thesis after having successfully passed the second modular examination.

A 10-week internship has to be completed by the end of the fifth semester.

If the applicant’s English skills are not sufficient at the point of application, an English language preparatory course may be taken at the Berlin International University of Applied Sciences.

Berlin International University of Applied Sciences was founded as part of a growing international network of university campuses, offering students a cutting-edge, international study experience and an ideal preparation for careers in the increasingly globalized, modern business environment. Berlin International University of Applied Sciences is built on the experience in offering courses from six different study areas in Berlin as part of the BAU Global Network. Since 2012, we have offered courses in Berlin and have built our modern campus, so that we can now welcome students to our own study programs.
