Encourage speaker

On the other part, you are to inspire the speaker to speak. When the speaker will speak, you can learn more information. But, if the speaker loses the interest in speaking, you are losing the chance.

So, this is your duty to encourage the speaker to speak more. It will help you to listen carefully. And when this is about a language, you will know more. Consequently, that will enrich your vocabulary.

Listening gestures

Simultaneously, you have to show some gestures that you are listening to. Your body language should be positive towards the situation. Unless you show any proper body language, it will appear that you are not paying attention to the speech.

So, what can you do is nodding at the speech. Also, you can ask questions during or after the speech. Making direct eye contact with the speaker is another way to express your attention.
