As a Civil Engineer, you may find jobs in many different areas. Some work with the management of projects, including financial and legal aspects, others in the areas of highway engineering, infrastructure, traffic, soil mechanics and harbour engineering.
About the Degree
The programme in Civil Engineering is a professional bachelor’s degree. Professional bachelor degrees have a curriculum in large part made up of career and practice-oriented training. The programme prepares students for direct employment within professions of industry, education, commerce, health, etc.
Professional bachelor degrees do not exclude access to subsequent degrees (e.g. a Master). In some cases, a bridging programme or supplementary courses might be necessary.

Civil Engineering is an international profession that involves the design, construction, operation and improvement of the built environment. Civil engineers provide the technical expertise and management skills to plan, design, construct and maintain such facilities as buildings, bridges, water supply systems, waste treatment systems, road and rail networks, air and sea ports in a sustainable manner to reduce the impact on the environment.
The Bachelor Programme of Civil Engineering at VIA provides you with skills and knowledge needed to manage structural calculations, drawings, soil mechanics, road design and calculations, etc. The flexibility of the programme and the variety of electives allow you to create the degree that will prepare you for the career you want.
To be admitted to this program, you must have had at least 12 years of combined primary and secondary school education, with a diploma from an accredited general or vocational upper secondary education school.
You must also be able to document that you meet the following requirements:
- Mathematics at an advanced level (corresponding to a Danish A-level).
- Physics at intermediate level (corresponding to a Danish B-level).
- Chemistry at a basic level (corresponding to a Danish C-level).

In addition, if English is not your first language, you need to provide documentation of your current English language level.
