The program offers a systematic and practical approach to the major fields in modern biology. The teaching language is English. Graduation requires 135 class contact hours including 12 hours in elective courses and 38 hours in practical laboratory courses. Special focus in the program is on cell and molecular biology, human biology, genetics, microbiology, and modern analysis techniques. Training includes state-of-the-art techniques that are generally taught in small groups.
All laboratories are excellently equipped. In the third study year, students can choose between a number of elective courses, thus availing of the opportunity to perform studies and research in different scientific disciplines.

Basic subjects are taught in the first year of the program, which consists of courses in chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics, and basic courses in biology (histology, anatomy, cell biology, physiology, and microbiology). From the second year onwards, courses focus on molecular genetics, biochemistry, medical microbiology, and immunology. The elective courses offer insights into special fields of biology and biomedicine. The Bachelor’s thesis involves a three-month training period in a research group or company and gives students the opportunity to apply acquired knowledge in research and development. Students can spend their fifth and/or sixth semester at one of our partner universities abroad. Several double degree programs are offered.

Bachelor of Science in Applied Biology
Very good command of English is necessary in order to successfully complete the Bachelor’s program. Foreign applicants must prove proficiency in English (TOEFL IBT: score of 79 or higher, TOEFL CT: score of 213 or higher, TOEFL PT: score of 550 or higher, IELTS: score of 6.0 or higher). The original TOEFL score report must be sent by ETS, our institution code is 7977. English language certificates are valid for two years from the date of issue.
Knowledge of German is NOT required, but some basic language skills would be helpful for daily life. Our language center offers special introductory German language courses for international students.
