Sustainable Tropical Forestry is part of the EU-funded Erasmus Mundus program. It is offered by a consortium of five European universities: Bangor University, Technische Universität Dresden, AgroParisTech, University of Padova, and University of Copenhagen. You are required to study at two of these universities. Which one you choose, will depend on the academic profile you want.

Career Opportunities

SUTROFOR graduates work in companies or organizations dealing with sustainable tropical forestry, development, and natural resources, such as for instance CARE or a consultancy company. Others work for NGOs, international organizations like WWF, FAO or UNEP, or in a ministry or governmental agency. Successful students will also be able to apply to high-level international Ph.D. programs.

Course Details:

The two-year MSc program in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR in short) gives you the best instruction in the field of tropical forestry in Europe. You work with the growing challenges in contemporary tropical forestry in a global context, and you require valuable real-life experience by doing fieldwork in a tropical country.
During the program, you acquire international experience and intercultural understanding that makes you capable of working with tropical forestry in countries and cultures all over the world.

You become an expert in the connection between the exploitation of tropical forest and nature areas for profitable production that can benefit a local community on the one hand and the preservation of biodiversity and the environment for the benefit of the global society on the other hand.

Enrollment Requirements:

Admission to the Master’s program in Sustainable Tropical Forestry (SUTROFOR) requires the completion of a qualifying bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, from a recognized/accredited university. If you have completed or are in your final semester of a relevant Bachelor’s degree program you are eligible to apply for the SUTROFOR program.

Qualifying Bachelor’s degrees include Agriculture, Biology, Forestry, Geography, Geoinformatics, Natural Resources, Economics, Agrobiology, and Landscape Engineering – or an equivalent Bachelor’s degree.

The SUTROFOR admission committee assesses all applications individually based on its academic content. You can only get an answer to whether or not your degree meets the admission requirements by applying for admission to the program. The committee does not offer pre-application eligibility assessments of potential applicants’ qualifications.
