The Master of Laws is an advanced academic degree, pursued by those holding a professional law degree. It is commonly abbreviated LL.M., from the Latin Legum Magister (meaning “master of laws”). Similarly, its pre-requisite, the Bachelor of Law is abbreviated LL.B. (Legum Baccalaureus).
A Master’s degree in law (LL.M.) is key to a wide range of career possibilities within the courts, law firms, and the police. You can become a legal adviser or consultant within the public administration or take on a variety of jobs in businesses or private organizations – nationally and internationally.
The LL.M. is a prerequisite to becoming an attorney, prosecutor, and judge. For this career path, you will need 3-year employment as an assistant attorney in addition to your Master’s degree. With a Master’s degree in law, you can also apply for the 3-year Ph.D. Program and pursue an academic career.
Tuition
There is a tuition fee for all full-time degree students who hold citizenship from outside EU/EAA/Switzerland. Students within an exchange program are not required to pay tuition.

With a Master’s degree in law (LL.M) you are able to apply legal methodology at a specialized level within complex parts of the legal system. Prerequisite to the Master in Law is a recognized Legum Baccalaureus or LL.B (i.e. Bachelor of Law). In addition, the University of Copenhagen must receive a motivated application stating why you want to study at the Faculty of Law, as well as documentation needed for the assessment procedure.
