Master's | Onsite |
City regions worldwide are incorporated into economic, demographic, social and ecological transformation processes that are accompanied by profound functional and structural changes of urban landscapes. This takes place in an interplay of planned and unplanned processes. This also comprises selective processes of growth and shrinking as well as re-, sub- or post-suburbanization processes. Notably post-industrial urban landscapes like the Ruhr region are faced with special challenges of an integrated and sustainable restructuring. New types of urban landscapes are an essential result of these transformation processes.
The double degree Master’s program Transformation of Urban Landscapes (TUL) focuses on the present and future challenges in developing sustainable metropolitan regions. The four-semester program gives students the necessary professional competence to cope with those challenges in both growing and shrinking regions. The first year takes place at Ruhr-Universität Bochum. The second-year will be held at the Tongji University in Shanghai. The course language is English.
