The degree program, which is focused on research, looks at the economic, agricultural and political relationships within the international agricultural and nutrition economy, the environment, and rural spaces. Course Details:

In the first year of studies,
the students complete five compulsory modules:

  • Agricultural and Food Policy
  • Applied Econometrics
  • Environmental and Resource Economics
  • Farm System Modelling
  • Microeconomics

Besides these, five semi-elective modules can be chosen from the areas of agricultural development, international agricultural trade, global food economy, agricultural and nutrition policies, etc. Lectures are complemented by computer exercises, group discussions, seminar papers, and case studies that are worked on and presented in groups or as individual assignments.

In the second year of studies,
students choose five additional elective modules from a large subject catalog. This ensures a solid education in the agricultural economic sub-disciplines, while there is still enough room to put together a program suited to your individual career plans.
A personal mentor from among the instructors advises students in selecting their modules and planning their studies in order to make sure everything goes smoothly and progresses as planned.

Enrollment Requirements:

 

Applicants are required to have an above-average Bachelor of Science (BSc) or equivalent degree in agriculture, economics, or a related discipline, following at least three years of university studies or German FH studies. Apart from grades and educational achievements, professional experience, motivation, and other relevant activities will be considered. Students are expected to have a basic understanding of micro- and macroeconomics, a solid background in mathematics and statistics, and should be computer-literate.

To facilitate the self-evaluation of applicants, the university has introduced an online pre-test for all applicants for the AgEcon program.
It is compulsory to complete the test before the application deadline, but the test results will not influence the chances of admission.

Please note: All applicants have to submit proof of English proficiency even if their previous studies were taught in English, unless they have studied in the USA, UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.

About the University/Institution:

Hohenheim offers enrolled students assistant jobs on campus. Students are responsible for managing working hours and these hours should not conflict with their studies. Working off-campus is also possible according to the Aliens Act. However, please be aware that without good knowledge of German, jobs are quite difficult to find.
