The Bachelor of English provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of English language, with a focus on its practical, scientific, and artistic aspects. Through engaging the field’s dynamic intellectual tradition, students develop their capacity for critical reflection within a broader cultural perspective.

Our excellent lecturers have long educational and work experience from the UK and USA and can offer students a program with an internationally high standard, in both the linguistic and cultural components.

Course Details:

Mode of delivery – ONLINE ONLY in 2020

The first semester of the Bachelor in English will be delivered entirely online in autumn 2020.*

Online study “trip”
In the autumn semester, new students will have the opportunity to participate in a one-week online course delivered by the Norwegian Study Centre in York, as part of the course SP171 British Studies for Bachelor of English. No international travel is required in order to participate. The online course is free of charge.​

Semester registration

You can register as a student as soon as you receive your student number. After completing registration, you will have access to a range of digital forums and tools at Nord University. This includes digital meeting rooms and the e-learning platform Canvas.
This year, it is especially important that you participate in digital learning arenas.

Participation and orientation
Students located in Norway are invited to attend an onsite orientation meeting. For new students studying online, the meeting will be streamed in Zoom. We recommend attending the orientation meeting, where you will receive lots of useful information and have the opportunity to see and hear your lecturers.

Equipment

Digital learning forms an important part of education at Nord, regardless of the mode of delivery. It is important to have the right equipment.
All student should have access to:

  • PC/Mac/tablet with internet access
  • Headset
  • Web camera​
We recommend the following standard:

Language Requirements:

If you have your Higher Education Entrance Qualification from an English-speaking country or have taken higher education in English, you may fulfill the requirements without any of the English tests above.  Check NOKUT’s GSU-list for country-specific information about documenting proficiency in the English language. The test scores provided on NOKUT’s overview are for the bachelor level.

English language tests and scores:

  • Completed and passed an English course (140 hours per year / 5 hours per week) taken at Norwegian upper secondary school.
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) with a minimum score of 500 on the written test or 60 on the online test. Nord University’s TOEFL code is 1648.
  • IELTS Academic (International English Language Testing System) with a minimum score of 5.0.
  • University of Cambridge First Certificate in English OR Certificate in Advanced English OR Certificate of Proficiency in English
